Lamson set out on horseback from Lubec, Maine, and provides detailed description of the places and people seen and met along the way: St. Charles; description of a hermit in the woods and his dwelling; Ste. Marie; description of the French Canadians--their houses and farms; Québec--the city and nearby waterfalls; Montréal--nuns and soldiers commented on; public buildings of Montréal; a ride through the White Mountains.
